Gabbeh rugs are hand-knotted and originate from Iran and India. "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic rug style. Since the early 1990s, they have been a popular, more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs, which are often associated with formal interior design. Gabbehs have a thick, luxurious pile, many colours and feature cool, geometric or animal motifs, abstract or representational. Mostly made of wool, they vary in size from small mats to large carpets and fit into any room in the house.
