Gabbeh rugs are hand-knotted in Iran and India. The name "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic rug style. Since the early 1990s, they have been popular as a more relaxed, folk alternative to traditional Persian rugs, which are often associated with formal interior design. Gabbehs are characterised by a thick, luxurious pile, offer a variety of colours and feature cool geometric or animal motifs, often abstract or representational. Usually made of wool, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs and are suitable for any room in the house.
