Gabbeh rugs, hand-knotted in Iran and India, are known as "raw" rugs. Since the early 1990s, they have grown in popularity as a relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs, which are often associated with formal interior design. They are characterised by a thick, luxurious pile and a variety of colours, with cool geometric or animal motifs that can be abstract or representational. Mostly made of wool, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs and are suitable for any room in the house.
