Gabbeh carpets, hand-knotted in Iran and India, are known for their simplicity and rusticity. The term "Gabbeh" in Farsi means "raw" and describes their uncomplicated style. Since the early 1990s, they have grown in popularity as a more relaxed, folksy alternative to traditional Persian carpets, which are often associated with formal interior design. Gabbehs have a thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and feature cool geometric or animal motifs, either abstract or representational. Mostly made of wool on wool, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs and are suitable for any room in the house.
