Gabbeh rugs, knotted in Iran and India, are known for their simplicity and rusticity. The term "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes an uncomplicated carpet style. Since the early 1990s, they have been popular as a more relaxed, folksy alternative to traditional Persian carpets, which are often associated with formal interior design. Gabbehs have a thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and feature cool geometric or animal motifs, often abstract or representational. They are typically made of wool on wool and range in size from small mats to large rugs, suitable for any room in the house.
