Gabbeh rugs are hand-knotted in Iran and India. The name "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Persian and describes a simple, rustic rug style. Since the early 1990s, they have become increasingly popular as a relaxed, folk alternative to traditional Persian rugs. Gabbehs are characterised by thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and bold geometric or animal motifs. They are typically made of wool on wool and vary in size from small mats to large rugs, suitable for any room in the house. Their patterns can be abstract or representational, often depicting animals or people.
