Gabbeh means "raw" in Farsi and refers to rustic carpets that have been gaining popularity since the 1990s. They offer a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian carpets, with thick pile, many colours and bold geometric patterns, often featuring abstract or figurative motifs such as animals or people. Gabbeh rugs are mainly made of wool, some also of cotton, and vary in size to suit any room in the house.
