Gabbeh carpets, the word meaning "raw" in Farsi, have been popular since the 1990s as a relaxed alternative to traditional Persian carpets. They have a thick pile, diverse colours and bold patterns, often with abstract or figurative motifs of animals or people. Mostly made of wool, there are also variants made of cotton or other materials, suitable for different room sizes in the home.
