Gabbeh rugs, hand-knotted in Iran and India, mean "raw" in Persian and have offered a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs since the 1990s. These rustic rugs are characterised by their thick, luxurious pile and a variety of colours. Their patterns, including cool geometric designs and animals, can be abstract or representational, often depicting animals or people. Made from wool, and sometimes cotton, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs and fit well in any room of the house.
