Gabbeh, meaning "raw" in Farsi, have been popular since the 1990s as a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian carpets. These rustic carpets have a thick, luxurious pile, a variety of colours and bold geometric patterns, often with abstract or figurative motifs such as animals or people. Mostly made of wool, but also cotton or other materials, they vary in size from small mats to large area rugs for any living space.
