Gabbeh means "raw" in Farsi and refers to simple, rustic carpets. Since the early 1990s, they have enjoyed growing popularity as a relaxed, folk alternative to Persian carpets. Gabbeh carpets have a thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and bold, geometric patterns that can be abstract or representational, often depicting animals or people. They are usually made of wool, less commonly cotton or other materials, and range from small mats to large carpets suitable for any room in the house.
