Gabbeh means "raw" in Farsi and refers to simple, rustic carpets. Since the 1990s, they have become more popular as a relaxed alternative to traditional Persian carpets. Gabbeh rugs have thick pile, diverse colours and bold, geometric patterns, often featuring abstract or figurative motifs such as animals or people. They are usually made of wool, sometimes cotton or other materials, and vary in size from small mats to large rugs suitable for any room in the house.
