Gabbeh means "raw" in Farsi and refers to simple, rustic carpets. Since the early 1990s, they have been gaining popularity as a relaxed, folk alternative to traditional Persian carpets. Gabbehs are characterised by thick, luxurious pile, a variety of colours and bold geometric patterns. Their designs can be abstract or representational, often featuring motifs of animals or people. Made from wool, sometimes cotton, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs, suitable for any room in the home.
