Gabbeh means "raw" in Farsi and refers to simple, rustic carpets. Since the 1990s, they have become more popular as relaxed, folk alternatives to traditional Persian carpets. Gabbeh rugs have a thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and bold, geometric patterns, often with abstract or representational motifs such as animals or people. They are usually made of wool, sometimes cotton or other materials. Their sizes range from small mats to large rugs, suitable for any room in the house.
