Gabbeh means "raw" in Farsi and describes simple, rustic carpets. Since the early 1990s, they have become popular as a more relaxed, folk alternative to Persian carpets. Gabbeh carpets have a thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and bold, geometric patterns. These can be abstract or representational and often depict animals or people. Gabbeh carpets are usually made of wool, but sometimes also of cotton or other materials. Their sizes vary from small mats to large carpets and they fit into any room in the home.
