The term "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic rug. Since the early 1990s, they have become increasingly popular as they offer a more relaxed, folk-inspired alternative to traditional Persian rugs. Gabbeh rugs are characterised by thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and bold geometric patterns, often with abstract or figurative motifs such as animals or people. They are usually made of wool, sometimes cotton, and vary in size from small mats to large rugs suitable for any room in the house.
