The term "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic rug. Since the early 1990s, Gabbeh rugs have been popular as an alternative to traditional Persian rugs due to their relaxed, folk style. They are characterised by a thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and bold geometric patterns, often with abstract or figurative motifs such as animals or people. Mostly made of wool, there are also versions made of cotton or other materials, in various sizes to suit any room.
